CLASSIFICATIONS FOR BUILDS
Choosing the type of build for your bike can be tough. We pride ourselves on being able to put together a package perfectly fit to your riding style and expectations. To help you decide and identify with options, we are putting together 4 different types of classifications for builds. Reference them below while considering cam selection, displacement, and compression ratios:
- Sport
Dynas and light Softails like the Deuce fit well into this category. Typically, Sport packages are for one up riding and little, or no luggage. These engines have higher compression and a power range from just off idle to redline.
- Sport Touring
Street Glides, Road Kings, Heritage Softails, and ElectraGlides are comfortable here if you ride your ElectraGlide mostly one up or your Heritage two up. If you want the most performace you can get for a heavier bike, this is the place to be. While this package increases compression, it does so in a way that preserves rideability with a personality friendly to heavier "street sleepers". These are very reliable combinations but may require a modification in riding style if less than 93 octane fuel is purchased. Usually this means down shifting to pass (eliminating detonation) instead of just rolling it on.
- Touring
If you own a touring model like an UltraClassic or a heavy Softail like a Heritage and spend most of your time with a passenger and/or luggage, or just want mostly low end grunt, a Touring package is perfect for you. These combinations are specifically designed to put the power band where you need it most for those long trips thru the mountains on the heaviest of bikes. This is also a great setup if you live in regions with steep grades and only have access to 91 octane fuel.
- Heavy Touring
These packages are designed for those with the heaviest touring models and most extreme riding conditions. If you ride almost exclusively with a passenger and full luggage or plan to pull a trailer or use a sidecar, this is the choice for you. The Heavy Touring option is also for those who live and ride primarily in very mountainous regions and only have access to 91 or lower octane fuel.
